Check It Out
by MARC HUNTER
Have you ever craved a steak, or a cheeseburger, or some good barbeque? Maybe some chocolate or ice cream? I sure have, and at one point or another, I think I’ve had a strong urge for each one of those things. But, I also get cravings to read certain types of stories or books. This week I was craving a Western (although, technically, I believe that’s called a “hankerin’ for a Western”) with some gritty characters, colorful language and some good old fashioned frontier justice. Now, I’ll probably read my way through two or three of these books before something else starts to gnaw at me. And even if I try, I can’t plan for it and I never know how long it’s going to last. But, just like food, I enjoy variety in my reading diet...I mean, no one wants to eat chicken breast for dinner every day, do they?
This is one of the many reasons I love the library, it’s like an all-you-can-eat buffet... of books...and information, and entertainment. And bonus – when you leave the library, you don’t need to go home and put on your stretchy pants...well, unless you want to I suppose.
