In response to a report of shots being fired in the area, Chapa Middle School was placed on lockdown for about 10 minutes shortly after school began Monday morning.
"Police responded and determined it was someone on their own property shooting at a coyote," said Tim Savoy, school district spokesman. "No one was in danger."
A letter about the lockdown was sent home to parents, Savoy added. It was not known whether the gun-toting landowner killed the coyote.
