Austin Woodrow Swan Sr., 78, of Buda, Texas passed away on September 17, 2011 at Christopher House in Austin, Texas. He was born in Elroy, Texas to Timothy and Eula Swan on December 22, 1932. He was the fifth child of a family of 11 children.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and served in Korea and Japan. He retired from his business, Swan Excavating Contractors, in 1999 after 28 years. Austin married Alicstine Royston, on Feb. 20, 1958. To this union of 53 years, five children were born.
He is survived by his wife, Alicstine; their five sons (and spouses), Austin Woodrow Jr. (Melanie), Jerald Ray (Italia), Christopher Wayne (Mary), Roderick Gene (Renee) and Terrence Henry (Ashley); three sisters, Georgia Morrison, Virginia Swan, Eula Lee; and one brother, Lorenzo Swan. He also leaves 13 grandchildren; Shane, Caitlin, Carlos-Avery, Sarah, Mateo, Emilio, Krista, Jaime, Antonio, Cedric, DeSean, Lexa and Janae; one great-grandson, Colin; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, family and friends.
The family would like to thank oncologist, Dr. Laurence Tokaz, his staff and all other caregivers for their compassionate care during his long illness. Funeral Services were on September 22, 2011 at Center Union Missionary Baptist Church in Buda. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church at P.O. Box 98, Buda, TX 78610; or the American Cancer Society.
