Gunner Thames, age 15, of Buda passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 from complications from a rodeo injury.
He was a student at Jack C. Hays High School where he will be missed by his teachers and peers. His love for the rodeo was apparent and strong. He was involved with the FFA, 4-H Club, Texas High School Rodeo Association, Cowboy’s Professional Rodeo Association and Texas Steer Wrestlers Association. He will always remain in the hearts of everyone that knew him. Gunner was a Cowboy’s Cowboy.
Gunner is survived by his parents, John and Brenda Thames; brother, Rowdy Thames; best friend, Joseph Armand; great-grandmother Ethel Faught; grandparents, Melvin and JoAnn Thames; grandmothers, June Burns and Sandi McMichael; uncle, Kenney Thames and wife, Sue; uncle, Michael Thames and wife, Debbie; aunts, Becky Beck and husband, Pat, Misty McMichael and Leslie Wyndham; numerous cousins and other family members.
Gunner was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Bernard Burns and Gary McMichael.
Visitation was held Monday, September 12, 2011 at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle. The funeral service celebrating Gunner’s life was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Camp Ben McCulloch Tabernacle with Pastor Kenneth Polk officiating. Interment followed at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are recommended and may be directed to Michael Thames for a future scholarship fund in Gunner’s name.
