Oops! I goofed again; I omitted two businesses last week that are also in Uhland. Jack Powell Electric located in downtown Uhland and Lira Auto Repair located on Heidenreich Lane. Both are important to have in the community; my apologies to both. Let’s hope in the next week or so, I can report another business.

Who said women can’t keep a secret! Marie Schneider was honored on her 86th birthday on Saturday, March 12 at the Uhland home of her sister, Dorothy Schneider. The surprise party was a well-kept secret attended by Marie’s sisters, Evelyn Buehring and Linda Loep, as well as many nieces, grandnieces, sister-in-law and friends and a cousin, Richard Kirchoff (Motzie) and friend, Dianna of Austin. Chips, dips, sandwiches, plates of fruit, veggies and of course two birthday cakes (white and chocolate) baked by son Dwight, were enjoyed, along with visiting, recalling ancestors who lived on the farms around Rogers Ranch and Niederwald. All wished Marie a happy birthday with many more healthy years.

Congratulations to Raney Moore on winning first place in pole vault at the Jr. Rebel Relays last Thursday. Raney represented Barton Middle School.
Raney placed 4th in his class in the Yorkshire Pig Show. Cooper Moore’s Cross Breed was not as fortunate. Everyone enjoyed the Houston Livestock Show.

Danny and Beverly Kleen along with granddaughters Emily and Tia of Buda stopped by the home of Uncle Raymond and Aunt Myrtle Heideman after church Sunday morning to deliver some pictures and history for the Honor and Memory Wall to honor those that served in the military.
They also reported on a trip they made with Floyd and Jennie Barker of Dale, to Louisiana recently to go to Mardi Gras. They visited the parish of Arcadia to watch the “chicken runs” at several homes in the countryside. They also visited some small towns in the area to see festivals and parades.
