Donald Collins, age 79, of Cedar Park, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Donald retired from the U S Army and the Austin Police Department, Property Management Unit. He served in the Korean War and twice in Vietnam. Donald was a member of Manchaca Baptist Church, the Buda and Kyle Masonic Lodge, the Manchaca VFW and Texas Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief Team, serving after Katrina and Rita.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Christina Younts of Houston.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Miller Collins; children and spouses, Donna and Bruce Eckhardt, Bobby and Doreen Collins, John and Karen Collins and Duane and Lisa Collins; 11 grandchildren, Stacee Keller, Troy and Amy Eckhardt, Heath Eckhardt, Anthony Collins, Kyle Collins, Lauren Collins, Phillip Collins, John Collins Jr., Ashley Collins, Megan Collins, Trevor Collins; five great grandchildren, Kelsi, Taylor and Paige Eckhardt, Colton Collins and Cooper Collins; brother, Robert Collins and wife Chris; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Manchaca Baptist Church. Burial followed at Onion Creek Memorial Park, Manchaca.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the VA Clinic in Austin and the VA Hospital in Temple for their care and compassion during his stay.
