Buda Bits

by SANDRA GRIZZLE

Dr. Boone “Bo” Goodgame, Hematologist/Oncologist, at Seton Medical Center-Hays, will speak at the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center in Buda on Thursday, July 21, at noon.  Dr. Goodgame grew up in Uganda, where his father taught at the nation’s only medical school. He moved back to Texas at age 14, studied mechanical engineering at UT and received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He returned to East Africa with his wife and daughter during his final year of medical school, where they worked at a hospital in rural Kenya. Dr. Goodgame completed his internal medicine and oncology training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He remained at Washington University on faculty for two years, taking care of patients with cancer and conducting clinical and translational research in lung cancer. The doctor is now active in helping the Seton Healthcare Family and UT Southwestern Medical School, for which he serves on the clinical faculty, in building an academic cancer center. He practices oncology at Seton Medical Center Hays and is the medical director of the Shivers Cancer Center.

Not only is the month of July hot and dry, it is also special since there are five Fridays, five Saturdays and five Sundays! This will not happen again until July 2016.
