Holiday events in store for Buda

Buda Chamber of Commerce

by DICK SCHNEIDER

Here it is, almost Thanksgiving and we are finally getting some of the weather that we Texans like to brag about. Seventies in the daytime and 40s at night. How good is that? We survived the record-setting triple digits and here we are in heaven. Well, I am not sure it’s heaven but it is pretty nice.

If I want to know what heaven is, I need to talk to my best friend Carolynn. As many of you know, we lost her a year ago next week. I can’t believe it is already a year since you would hear, “Buda Area Chamber of Commerce, Carolynn speaking.” We certainly miss her but I know she is up there keeping an eye on us to make sure we do and say the right things. We try to keep up to her standards.

Speaking of keeping up, we are about to enter one of the busiest times of the year for us here in Buda. The calendars are filling up, parties are being planned and Buda will soon be into a fun-filled month of activities.

Early this week, I attended the local kickoff for “Turkeys Tackling Hunger”, Hays County Food Bank’s annual campaign to provide Thanksgiving meals for home preparation to needy people in our community. In 2010, the food bank gave turkey boxes complete with all the traditional trimmings to 2,195 families. With your help, we can do it again this year. For $20 you can purchase one of these meals. We have envelopes at the office. Please purchase one of these great gifts to the community. It makes you feel good.

Close on the heels of Thanksgiving, make sure you celebrate the 32nd year of Budafest. This great traditional event starts with a Christmas parade down Main Street on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. Budafest commences following the parade and runs Dec. 3 and 4 on the greenbelt on Main Street, just north of the library.

Next we have the 3rd annual Buda Trail of Lights running from December 14-21. It will be held in Historic Stagecoach Park from 6-10 p.m. each evening. Come out, enjoy the lights and get yourself into the Christmas spirit.

After you get over the holidays, make sure you attend the 10th annual Buda Area Chamber of Commerce awards banquet. It will be held on Feb. 18 and will take place at Texas Disposal Systems wonderful event center in Creedmoor. It’s the best darn party in Buda every year. Don’t miss it. You will have a blast.

I think that covers about everything. Enjoy the rest of this great fall season.

Dick Schneider is president of the Buda Area Chamber of Commerce.
