Girl Scouts impact local community

This just in from Girl Scout Troop 743 in Buda: Our Council has asked us to share some of our troops activities especially those impacting our local community.  Our scouts are Cadette level and are in 6th and 7th grade. This year they decided to do more community type projects.  Each girl is to research, organize, and lead a local community project. Sophia Gonzales is in 6th grade at Dahlstrom Middle School; she led the first project for her troop. We worked with Sherry Ash from Parks and Recreation in Buda and organized a cleanup at Stage Coach Park.  The troop picked up about 12-15 pounds of trash and learned the effects of trash in our environment. They have committed to be “trash free” and be more recyclable conscientious.  This was a fun opportunity and our Buda City Manager Ken Williams was very kind to take the time to recognize the troop with a signed Certificate of Appreciation!

In these pictures, Sophia is shown educating her sisters about the impact of trash and recyclables on the planet; Sophia laying out the plan for clean up; Troop 743 proudly striking a pose with their trash! Names in L-R order Sophia Gonzales (standing), Renae Wilkinson (sitting), Lauren Longoria (standing), Hayden Nye (sitting), Taylor Lunday (standing).

All girls are students at Dahlstrom Middle School.
