Buda city manager to stay put for now

STAFF REPORT

City Manager Kenneth Williams will be staying in Buda.

The Galveston City Council passed over Williams for its city manager position Monday, choosing instead to hire an official from a ski resort town in Utah.

Williams had been one of three finalists for the position. Galveston council members interviewed Williams and the other two candidates Monday.

The City Council then deliberated in executive session for more than an hour before selecting Michael Kovacs, the assistant city manager of Park City, Utah.

Williams issued a statement saying Galveston had made a good choice. He also thanked the people who had supported his nomination.

“I look forward to continuing my work with the city of Buda and enduring to make it the best city in which to live in the United States,” he said in the statement released Tuesday.

Williams has been Buda’s city manager since September 2008. He was the city manager of the East Texas town of Diboll from 2006 to 2008 and was an assistant city manager in Lufkin from 2004 to 2006.
