Warning to the elderly or anyone who might get a phone call like Claudette Walters did last week. Someone saying they were from the Publishers Clearing house said that Walters had won 2.5 million dollars. The only thing she needed to do was send them a check for $25,000 (1 percent of the winnings) and she would get the reminder. When she explained that she did not have that kind of money to send them, they called back and said, Since she was a “natural born citizen,” she would only need to pay $700. Again she said she did not have the money. Anyway after five phone calls from them, they indicated that UPS would deliver a check on Friday by noon. She is still waiting for that check. Don’t be fooled by this type of call, just hang up.
The Buda Fine Arts Festival has announced the winners of their annual scholarships. This year the winners were Michael Lippe from Kyle who graduated from Lehman High School and Hays High graduate Patricia Swanson of Buda.
