The Buda Fine Arts Festival Committee is busy making plans for the 8th annual Fine Arts Festival, which will be held October 22-23. The committee includes Joellen Simmons, chair/presidAent; Elaine Rogers, secretary and fundraising; Ginny Harlow, treasurer; Sara Grizzle, artist; Valerie Corry, grants/website/advertisement; Christi Smith, graphics; Therese Spina, promotional items coordinator; Zak Dennis, face book/internet coordinator; Sara Baran, festival coordinator; KaSandra Verett, Art Around Town community events; Sherry Snowden, children’s art and scholarship Chair; Louise Placek, volunteers; Peg Spidel, silent auction; Hillary Smith, music; Shirley Malone, hospitality and Michele Schalin, website sponsor.
The committee plans to hold events throughout the year in our community under the name Art Around Town. If you are interested in having them involved with your events, please contact Joellen Simmons at [email protected] as the committee is interested in expanding beyond the two-day festival scheduled in October.
Buda was well represented at the Capitol 10,000 in Austin on Sunday morning. Liz Shelton was the 4th woman crossing the finish line with a time of 35:50. Placing 10th in the 55-59 age division was Shelley Morgan in a time of 55:33. Veteran runner Hope Palacios finished in 1:25:15 for a 2nd place win in the 75-79 age group. The only Buda male in the top 10 finishers was Chad Bennett with a time of 38:27 placing 6th in the 40-44 age bracket. Congratulations to all the runners, job well done.
Anniversary wishes go out to Fraser and Linda Harris on April 4 and Gerald and Carol Gage on April 5.
Birthday wishes go to to Mary Beach and the Buda Public Library that has been around for 31 years on April 1; Gay Dahlstrom and Shirley Fowler on April 2; Ollie Boothe and Billy Lancaster on April 4; Sherri McKee on April 6.
Tuesday, April 5th is the 81st birthday of our best man at the Free Press, publisher Bob Barton. Be sure to wish him a good one.
Be sure to head to downtown Buda on Thursday, April 7 for the monthly “first Thursday” events.
Friday is April’s Fool Day; don’t let anyone get the best of you that day.
