Praying for some rain

Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Promises, promises; but still no rain. Noticed the corn really looks thirsty, as does the oats, and the pastures are not very green anymore. Heard the frogs sing a few nights ago, that used to be a sign of rain. Even the frogs are confused.

The hummingbirds have finally arrived. “Ring” is the leader, as he has been for a couple of years. Thought he had gotten lost.

St. John Lutheran Church had a food drive last Sunday, March 27, for the Hays and Caldwell County food pantries. By giving a monetary donation, the pantries can purchase about four times as much as we can. However your gifts of non-perishable food items are still accepted. If you did not make a donation, it is always welcome next Sunday. Also don’t forget the socks (mens and womens) for the nursing homes.

Prayers and best wishes go to Lois Daugherty, who is recovering from surgery. Also to George Lyons who had surgery and all others who are on the not so well list.

Midweek Lenten services continue at St. John Lutheran Church through April 13. A potluck meal in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by the worship at 7 p.m. Believe it or not, this weekend is the beginning of April. Don’t forget the St. John Lutheran Women’s Guild meeting at the Fellowship Hall. A carry-in light lunch at noon, followed by the meeting. All members are urged to attend and, of course, visitors are welcome.

Not much going on in the community. Guess everybody is busy in the garden. Remember my number is 512-398-3800 and I sure would appreciate hearing some of the happenings in and around Uhland.
