Lehman relay team eyeing district title

Buda Chamber of Commerce

by DICK SCHNEIDER

It seems like only yesterday that the kids were going back to school. Now I find that they will be out of school in a couple of weeks. Where did the school year go?

Now, I suppose you are wondering why an old guy like me would think in terms of the school year when those dates are supposed to be reserved for teachers and young parents. Well, it’s because I serve on the HCISD Education Foundation Board and all of our activities revolve around the school year.

Last week we had a great teacher of the year awards luncheon at Mandola Tratoria Lisina, a restaurant in Driftwood. The program was very nice and of course the food was fabulous. It’s like a trip to Tuscany and only a few miles away in Driftwood. If you haven’t been there, it is worth the trip.

Next we will have the Linebarger Reception which honors the top 10 percent of the graduating seniors on May 27. That is also a very nice event that helps us send our students off to the next part of their lives.

These activities wind up the school year and the Education Foundation will end its year with the Education Foundation Golf Outing on June 14. If you are a golfer and would like to support the Foundation, give me a call and we will get you into the outing.

Now that you have heard about the end of our school year, what about you? Are you going out of town on vacation or are you spending your summer in Buda? If you are staying home, or if you want to have some good times in Buda, plan to attend the Toons and Tunes events in City Park. Jack Jones, the new Buda Parks Director, has put together a great Friday night schedule of alternating cartoon movies and live music and it is sure to be great. If you don’t have the schedule, contact Jack at 312-0084 and he will give you all of the info.

Carolynn and I are going to have a very special lobster cruise this summer to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. The anniversary isn’t until September but the lobsters are better in the summer. We will be cruising the New England Islands along the inland waterways. Carolynn likes to cruise but doesn’t like to go out to sea.

After the cruise, we will spend a week at the Carolina coast for our annual family reunion and that will be all of our summer travels. I hope we can squeeze in some Toons and Tunes.

Whatever you plan to do this summer, please be safe and enjoy. The summers come too fast.
