Buda Bits

The Elm Grove Eagles PTA soars to new heights by giving up their second fundraiser of the year to help their new neighbor school, Carpenter Hill Elementary. Every PTA is allowed two fundraisers per year to raise money for their school and since the school will open this year, Elm Grove PTA wanted to help the new PTA at Carpenter Hill by giving their profits to help them start their new PTA fund. Approximately two-thirds of the current Elm Grove student population will be moving to the new school and this fundraiser will give the new group a good start up. PTAs provide funds for their teachers and supply other items that may be needed in the classroom. Thanks, Elm Grove PTA.

Fifty-seven years ago on Friday, Feb.13, Horace and Faye Fletcher had their first date for a Valentine’s banquet. Horace gave Faye a corsage of white mini-roses to wear on her pink dress for the event at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in South Austin. Also on that night, Faye was crowned Valentine Sweetheart.
This year on Valentine’s Day, Horace again gave Faye a corsage made with white mini-roses. The Buda couple will celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary on March 27. The Rev. Eberhart married them at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Over the years, the same minister also married four of their six children at Pleasant Hill.

Local Cub Scout Pack 218 was among the 6,000 scouts from across Texas that marched through downtown Austin on Sat., Feb. 6 in the Report to State Parade. This is a yearly event at which the scouts have an opportunity to report to the governor on the community service performed by scouts. This year’s parade marked the 100th anniversary of the Boys Scouts of America.
