Ethel (Hicks) Turner passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010, at West Oaks Rehabilitation and Care Center in Austin, at the age of 94. She formerly lived in Buda before her illness forced her to move to West Oaks. She was born to the late George and Bessie Hicks in Nolanville, Texas on January 13, 1916.
She met Ray M. Turner and after a brief courtship they were married on September 9, 1934 in Killeen. At one time they owned and operated the Country Corner Grocery in far South Austin near Manchaca, where she worked by Ray’s side for 16 years. They sold the store and retired to Buda.
She was a gifted craftsperson and enjoyed knitting and crocheting most of all. She always looked forward to attending the Craft Group at Manchaca Methodist Church.
Her parents, one infant daughter, four siblings and her husband of 62 years, before he passed in 1996, predeceased her.
Two sons, Charles Ray and wife Jean of Buda, and Curtis Lynn and wife Carol of Austin survive her. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive her.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 19, Harrell Funeral Home in Austin. Burial followed at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
