Carson steal sparks Lehman 42-39 victory

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

Does that mean spring is here when the irises bloom and also the plum trees? The irises look a little bewildered and the plum blossoms are very small, as though they are trying to hide from the probable cold weather. Guess we will order another tank of butane, just in case.

St. John Lutheran Church has mid-week Lenten services (every Wednesday, with a carry-in light supper at 6:30 p.m., followed by services at     7 p.m. in the Rec Center next to the church.

Upcoming schedule of events: church council will meet on Thurs., March 4 at 6:30 p.m. (church service on Wed. night), Women’s Guild on Sat., March 6 at noon, in the home of Vickie Schawe. This enables the ladies, who have jobs out of the home on weekdays, to attend and take part in plans, for the Guild. Bring your favorite covered dish and join the group, if you are not a member of St. John, come anyway, you may want to be. That’s at 12 noon at Vickie’s house. The following Sat. the Men’s Fellowship meets at the Rec Center at 9 a.m. Ron Salewsky will be the chief cook. They are planning their annual barbeque, etc. for sometime in May. Date to be announced soon.

Oh, I almost forgot, coffee fellowship will follow the 10:30 a.m. worship service on March 7. Barbara Hanna and Susan Janicki are hostessing.

Though it was a week late, Raymond and Myrtle Heideman wished Pauline Schwertfeger a happy 80th birthday (my little sister is 80??) and enjoyed lunch at Chisholm Trail Barbeque. Her husband, Herbert, was also part of the event. Here’s wishing her many more. Oh, her birthday was Feb. 18.

Gladys Sorrels spent a few days in Austin last week, visiting her family, Tim, Debbie, Mia and Heather. Because of cold weather, Gladys did not attend Mia’s soccer game. They won anyway.

A beautiful flower arrangement greeted the worshipers as they entered the vestibule in St. John Lutheran Church on Sunday. Krislyn (Schnautz) and Mike Stephens shared the flowers from their wedding in Old Town Kyle last week. Thanks for sharing and congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Stephens.

Another good “land rain” (as dad called it, only in German) fell Sunday night. The farmers are waiting for a spell of dry weather to plant. What a difference, last year they hoped for rain.
