On Center Street
by BRENDA STEWART
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting her in person, Frances Sledge made a big impression on me as a citizen of Kyle. Known for her civic pride and generosity, Mrs. Sledge, along with her children Edward and Jane, was instrumental in helping the Old Town Kyle Advocates in our fight to keep the Kyle Community Library from being moved into a sprawling subdivision north of town. By offering to sell a portion of her historic, inner-city property, Kyle was able to secure a home for our new library on a beautiful, tree-shaded parcel of downtown land which will serve generations of citizens for years to come. My condolences go out to the Sledge family along with my gratitude for the wonderful legacy their family has bestowed upon our city.
With this in mind, please plan on attending the Kyle Library Building Committee public forum on Monday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kyle City Hall to offer your input on the planning and design of our new library building.
