Hazel O. Miles (Roach) Holder, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Austin. Her devoted son, Wesley Roach, lovingly held her hand and looked into her eyes as she peacefully transitioned from her earthly pain and suffering into the Lord’s hands. Her three daughters, Dixie, Carol Jane and Shirley were never more than minutes from her bedside to give her anything of comfort she requested.
Hazel was born in Buda on August 24, 1923 to Henry and Clara Miles. She lived her lifetime in the Buda/Austin area. She married Milton D. Roach (deceased) and together they raised five children in Buda. She initially worked as a caregiver and eventually worked for Randolph Austin where she excelled in her role in the aero manufacturing field until retirement. In 1982 she married Eddie Lee “Butch” Holder (deceased) and they enjoyed the bulk of their retirement time traveling, fishing and camping. Her love of the outdoors and animals therein was unparalleled and warranted weekly trips to the hill country for deer watching.
All who knew Hazel would tell you that she was never happier than when she had all her “chicks in the nest” surrounding her. She reveled in her children and their families. William D. Roach (deceased), Wesley Roach (Joyce) of Buda, Dixie Cole (Richard) of Buda, Carol Jane Schaefer (Joe) of Austin and Shirley Sturdivant (Dr. Doug Hudson) of Austin, 12 grandchildren: Steve Schaefer, Melissa (John) Vandygriff, Cindy Stephenson (deceased), Rick (Andrea) Cole, John (Laura) Roach, Billy Roach, Lisa Cole (deceased), Melanie (Frank) Klaus, Sherry (Richard) Baker, Brad (Jennifer) Schaefer, Jared (Jessica) Sturdivant and Judson Sturdivant; 18 great-grandchildren: Michael and Brandon Roach, Lindsay and Morgan Vandygriff, Jeffrey and Jarrod Roach, Wesley Shipman and Mallory Hayes, Lauren Jones, Caleigh and Corbin Cole, Arielle and Aiden Schaefer, Josh (Sarah) and Heather Stephenson, Brookelyn Mitchell and Kale Schaefer, Leigh Sturdivant; five great-great grandchildren: Cynthia, AJ and Lola Stephenson, Austin and Vincent Obreson and one on the way.
