I first met Marty Kanetzky shortly after my youngest son started kindergarten at Buda Elementary, over 12 years ago. Marty’s involvement in the classrooms, on the campus and at the district level has been both humbling and inspiring.
As a property owner and tax payer in Hays County and as a realtor who works in this area, I have an understanding of the enormity of our current school/tax situation that many people don’t. Ironically, what once drew families to our area, low property taxes and high performing schools is now just the opposite. I work with families that are struggling to make their house payments simply due to their increased taxes. Escrow shortages are a critical issue that so many families in our district are facing at this time.
At the same time, I am finding more and more often, families who have researched the market and know they can get “more house for the money” in Hays CISD may choose to buy a significantly smaller home in a school district with higher academic scores, and possibly lower school tax rates.
There’s no doubt that the education of our children should be one of our greatest priorities. In this uncertain economy we have to make calculated, informed and careful decisions when spending our tax dollars. I know Marty Kanetzky will work hard to raise the academic results for our students while cutting excess spending. I think Marty Kantezky is the smart choice and I hope you’ll vote for her.
