It’s official. Hays CISD voters will decide in November whether to annex themselves into the Austin Community College taxing district.
The Austin Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday night to accept petitions submitted by the North Hays County Steering Committee.
The group needed 1,325 signatures and collected about 1,900 over about six months, college district officials say.
Less certain is the outcome of a parallel annexation effort being undertaken in San Marcos CISD, where many voters are still bitter about a 2006 effort that yielded multiple signature forgeries.
San Marcos ACCess has blown through several target dates as it attempts to gather the 2,200 signatures needed for an annexation election there.
Other annexation efforts are ongoing in the Bastrop, Elgin and McDade school districts.
