Hays and Caldwell County amateur radio operators will join thousands of other radio buffs this weekend, in an annual test of their communications capabilities. Radio amateurs, also called “hams,” are sometimes tapped to provide communications during disruptions caused by floods, tornadoes or wildfires.
Using data modes (such as radioteletype), amateur satellites, voice communications, and even Morse code, hams from across the U.S. and Canada will demonstrate their communications capabilities during the test.
