STAFF REPORTS

Many Hays County residents have already received their 2010 Census forms in the mail.  While the 2010 Census questionnaire is one of the shortest forms in decades, assistance is available if you have questions about any of the information you are asked to provide.

The constitutionally mandated population count first took place in 1790 and is the only civic event that includes every person in the country. The Census is the basis for America’s representative democracy, ensuring that Congress is fairly reapportioned every 10 years between the states. Census counts are also used to redraw state and local legislative boundaries so that political representation is fairly distributed across their changing populations, and to fairly distribute billions of dollars in federal funding for education, health care and other programs.

To get answers to your questions about your 2010 Census form, please stop by one of the 17 Questionnaire Assistance Centers in Buda, Kyle, Dripping Springs, Wimberley or San Marcos, or call toll-free from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. any day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday:

English: 1-866-872-6868

Spanish/en español:     1-866-928-2010

TDD (Telephone Display Device for the hearing impaired): 1-866-783-2010

For more information about the Census, or to access the Census Bureau’s Questions-and-Answers about the Census, go to www.census.gov. To apply for a part-time, temporary Census job call 866-861-2010.
