U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) met with senior citizens and other concerned residents at the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center in Buda last week, giving information and taking questions about changes in Medicare and health coverage.
What a breath of fresh air! Speaking to almost 60 people, Doggett gave an excellent overview of the Medicare system, and then continued to give detailed responses to some very detailed questions.
He discussed, in an intelligent manner, all sorts of angles on health care and the problems the U.S. is facing today in that field.
This meeting exemplified why Doggett was elected to the State Senate as a 28-year-old. His attention to detail back then just foreshadowed the continuing attention he would give to topics today.
Some people might say he is a policy wonk.
But in the case of a congressman fighting for Medicare and health reform, that’s exactly what we want.
Doggett was well received in Buda, not only because he is our congressman, but because he was so knowledgeable.
Yes, it was refreshing.
