Fear seems to be the predominant emotion among a sizeable number of the American population. Perhaps it is over estimated if one listens to the right wing pundits that appear on some radio and television networks. Fear is the never ending scream of most of their programming.
The computers on which we work, print our pictures and have all those other visuals that grandma and grandpa kept in the cedar chest or the storage cabinet are now about to be destroyed. We are assured that our computers are going to crash and the only way to stop it is to buy some sort of back-up system that will protect us from every possible catastrophe.
If our computers don’t crash, we will undoubtedly be the victim of identity theft. One never knows when some villain is going to be going through our trash to get those receipts from our credit card. Your driver’s license is going to be copied for sure if you aren’t very careful. The way to insure that your identity is protected is to pay some company eight or ten dollars a month to ensure no one can become you. Those eight or ten dollars also help to keep the pundit on the air.
Our economy is also either going into a deep depression or we are on our way to becoming a socialist, communist, or a Nazi nation. It depends on what day that the pundit is speaking and on what blog the pundit has read before going on the air. It might also depend on what one of the researchers has read or heard. The only way to make sure that you are going to be economically well-off is to buy gold. Now the pundits don’t tell you that the company selling the gold is also paying their salary. Nor do they tell you that you are going to have to pay a percentage to buy that gold and that you are going to have to pay another percentage to sell it in order to get that stuff that spends. One of the right wing pundits even tells you to pray over your decision.
To really make sure that you are safe, even if the economy becomes socialist, communist or Nazi, you can make sure you have food. The way to make sure you will have food is to buy some non-hybrid seeds of food stuffs that will last you about 90 days and also some stored canned food that will keep you going. All of these things are for your own safety.
The reason you are going to have to listen and act on these dire warnings is because they (who ever “they” are) want power or “it.” I assume that the folks are talking about the Obama administration but one pundit talks about Hitler and the Nazis so much I am beginning to wonder if Hitler has been reincarnated.
In addition to the radio or television, one can also become sufficiently afraid by attending certain political rallies where one can hear about how to save the world. Normally, these rallies are held on significant days like 8/28, just coincidentally the date of the famous “I Have a Dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King. It is also significant that that rally will be held on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. One can also buy seats to movie theatres to watch the pundits in action. You will be fully inculcated with fear.
Radio has become anathema to what was once great about America. Americans did not preach gloom and doom. We are an upbeat people. Fear was not a part of our life for the most part. Fear does not help anyone overcome a problem or a challenge. It only causes people to retreat into themselves. Maybe some of the listeners should whistle a happy tune. As Franklin Roosevelt said, “we have nothing to fear, but fear itself.”
