Science Hall Academic Night Thursday

Science Hall Elementary’s Academic Night is set for Thursday, Feb. 25, 5:30 p.m. With a goal of promoting literacy and increasing parental involvement, the event will include paper and cloth t-shirt decorating, poetry reciting, and word play with riddles and jokes. Special presentations will include an exhibit on Frederick Douglass in the library and introduction of the Frayer model instructional tool for parents. Final FAFSA in March

The final “Financial Aid Saturday” is set for local high school seniors Saturday, March 6, 8:30-12:30 p.m. at Lehman High School. The events are designed to assist seniors and their parents in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in anticipation of financial aid for college


Rangers offer Valentines

Wallace Middle School’s Sean and William Ammann, students in the Preparing for Adulthood and Social Success autism class, recently created a package of Valentine’s cards to be given to children at Austin hospitals before the big holiday. The project was in conjunction with radio station 94.7. Their teacher is Nikki Ulaszek Benjamin and Justin Fyffe is instructional aide for the class.


Youth art show thru March

Student artwork will be available for viewing during  Youth Art Month at the Curriculum and Instruction Annex – Academy High School. From March 1-12, viewing will be available after school, 4-5 p.m., but for the rest of the month viewing will be open during the school day. A March 30, 6-8 p.m. reception will feature a silent auction benefiting art scholarships.


Pet clinic set

Hemphill Elementary offers a pet vaccination clinic Tuesday, March 30 in the campus parking lot. Organizers will offer a goodie gift basket for the pet wearing the cutest outfit at 4:30 with prizes for first, second, third and runners-up. Pet vaccinations will be offered from 5-7 p.m.


Chapa moms and sons celebrate

Calling all moms! Chapa Middle School hosts “Mom and Her Son Date Night” Monday, March 1, 6 p.m., for Chapa boys and their moms or special mom figures. Grandmothers, aunts or big sisters qualify and in their absence, Chapa Principal Lisa Walls says “some wonderful campus female sponsors are ready for an invitation.” The event includes a complimentary dinner, great conversation and a dance lesson.
