Odds & Ends
by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN
Hope everybody is enjoying their Spring Break. When I went to school we were always glad when the school was in session or when it rained, so we did not have to work in the fields, chopping weeds, picking cotton, etc. Even though many of us had to walk several miles to school, it was more fun than fieldwork. My sister and I were fortunate enough to have a horse. “Baby May” had been trained to race with a car when it blew the horn and passed the horse. One day she ran and stepped in a hole beside the roadway and fell. Pauline, the lunch buckets and I flew everywhere. We led her to school and home that evening. Lucky she did not break her leg.

The Men’s Fellowship met this past Sat. morning for breakfast at the Rec Center. Kenneth Schnautz and Alton Petrosky were in charge of the cooking. No one complained so they must have had a good meal. After breakfast a meeting was held and the barbecue, raffle (barbecue pit and other donated prizes will be raffled), silent auction, open car show were discussed and plans made. The ladies of St. John Lutheran Church are asked to donate sheet cakes; prizes for the auction are also welcome. A sign-up sheet will be placed in the church. This event will be held May 15. Serving starts at 11 a.m. in the churchyard. By the way, there were 12 men who attended the meeting, “way to go guys!”

Gladys Rosenbaum has moved to an assisted living complex, at the Park at Beckett Meadows, 7709 Beckett Road, Austin 78749.
It is with concern I report the condition of Jim Alexander. Jim was in ICU in Brackenridge Hospital in Austin on Sunday after some surgery. We send prayers and get well wishes to him.
Prayers and get well wishes also go to and with Jean Collier, who is recovering from heart problems and surgery. She is still in Texas Neuro Center in Austin and is anxious to return home.
Danny Kleen seems to be doing well after shoulder surgery. He still has his arm in a sling. George Lyons can remove his neck brace for a short period. He also had surgery. Hope all the rest are better or on the way to recovery.
