Lehman High School Star Strutters are coming off consecutive weekends of stand-out competition performances. The Barbara Stangler-coached dance team gathered loads of awards at the Showmakers of America competition at Texas State, then the HTE Texas State Dance Competition in Austin.
A sweepstakes trophy was part of the haul at the late February Showmakers competition, that award complemented by a Judge’s Award for receiving 90 or above from all three judges on their prop, hip hop and jazz routines. Additionally, the team grabbed showmanship awards for the jazz and prop performances.
The Star Strutters Dance Officers also earned a Division 1 trophy for receiving 90 or above from all three judges on their jazz routine.
Akins High School was the setting for the early March HTE competition and the routines were just as finely staged as at the Showmakers event. Once again, a Sweepstakes trophy was in the offing, with the Star Strutters receiving 90 or above from all three judges for their hip hop, jazz and prop routines. They also received an Outstanding Presentation award for all three.
Additional awards at HTE included twin firsts in the medium division for their prop routine and hip hop routine and a third runner-up in medium division for their jazz routine. The Star Strutters Dance Officers also brought home a Sweepstakes trophy for their jazz and hip hop routines, as well as an individual second for hip hop.
