Local school bands sweep competitions: Hays and Lehman receive First Divisions

STAFF REPORT

The recently renovated Old City Hall, dedicated last month with great fanfare, has yet to open its doors as the Kyle Area Senior Zone.

A city inspector is waiting for the general contractor, G. Creek Construction, to install a gas meter before issuing a certificate of occupancy, said Jerry Hendrix, the city’s spokesperson.

“We want to issue that certificate of occupancy as soon as we can. We’re doing everything we can to do that,” Hendrix said.

First built in 1912, the Old City Hall on Center Street was renovated in 1976 and again this year with an $800,000 appropriation by the Kyle City Council.

Contrary to rumors that a worker’s electrocution has caused the delay in the building’s opening, Hendrix said city officials have not been notified of any injuries on the work site, saying, “We don’t have any official reports of anybody being hurt. We’ve heard things second- or third-hand.”

Adell Hurst, who took a lead in advocating for use of the building as a senior center, said her group has not occupied the building because they are waiting on the meter installation.
