Foreclosure postings in Hays County have remained high since the start of 2009, and this month was no exception.
In April, 157 Hays County properties will face auction on the steps of the county courthouse, a scant two percent decrease from the 160 properties posted in the March foreclosure sale.
That’s a 34 percent increase over the 117 properties posted in April of 2009, and a 94 percent increase over the 81 properties listed in the same month of 2008.
Every month in 2009 saw higher foreclosure listings than the same month in 2008, and 2010 is following a similar pattern. With the exception of this February, which saw a slim two percent decrease in postings over 2009, every other month in 2010 has seen significant increases over the year prior. Year to date, 2010 has seen 591 foreclosure postings, a 35 percent increase over the 438 for the same period in 2009.
A mortgage lender can initiate foreclosure proceedings when a property owner falls three months behind on their home payments. Nationwide, last year’s skyrocketing foreclosure levels and a melting housing market contributed to overall economic decline.
