I have been a member of the Buda Lions club for over 35 years and not once in the history of our club or the Buda Weiner Dog Races have we allowed any organization or person to dictate to us what they want our views to be: religious or political. Our Lions Club International Constitution forbids any club from endorsing any Republican or Democratic politician, political activist or organizations that have a political agenda.
US Foods did sponsor our Bar-B-Q Cook off, but how would you classify a food company as a political action committee? They did not want to register voters or have a political statement, confrontation or anything about their location in Buda. They sponsored our event, as did other businesses; strictly to encourage our efforts in the Buda Community.
As for Mr. Rod Kimbro’s statement of not supporting our club in the future, I am sorry. Apparently, you will not be attending any H.C.I.S.D. football or soccer games as we will be operating the concession stands and giving a percentage of our proceeds to the District. Also, please consider that we give eighteen $1,000 scholarships every year to graduating seniors. We also provide exams and glasses to any child that cannot afford them, send handicapped and diabetic children to our Lions Camp in Kerrville at no expense to them and without regard to religion, race, political party or such.
I have many friends who support Buda First and are Buda Lions Club members, but I have yet to voice my opinion in support or indifference to that cause. Nor would I let their cause endanger our friendship. I would respectfully ask Buda First and Mr. Kimbro to do the same and reconsider your opinion of the Buda Lions Club.
