Hays High School Academic UIL team rolled to an impressive win recently at San Marcos High School, capturing the 2010 District 17-4A Championship. The dominant showing included four stand-alone team awards, a 1-2-3-4 sweep in Accounting and a 1-2-3 sweep in Computer Applications. Lehman High School Computer Science Team, as usual, keyed its campus showing with its own 1-2-3-4 sweep and the Lobos’ Spelling team also took a first.
The Rebs’ Literary Criticism, Science, Number Sense and Mathematics teams all took team titles, with a total of 17 students qualifying for the Hays contingent headed to the April 24 regional competition at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The Lobos qualified 11 individuals to make the region run.
Hays High UIL Academic Coordinator Erin Stage urged the community to “wish all of these kiddos and their coaches congratulations on a job well done and wish them luck at Regionals!” Stage also sent her wishes for luck to the campus One Act Play students, coached by Dana Naughton, who advanced into later rounds of their own, contributing to the overall win. Michael Saberian, Lehman UIL Academic Coordinator, said of the next round, “Our students are ready to meet the challenge! On to Huntsville!”
