Life in retrospect

Staff reports

Hays CISD choirs were well represented in the recent Middle School Region Choir Clinic and Concert at the San Marcos ISD Performing Arts Center, the result of solid auditions two weeks earlier in Pflugerville.

Simon Middle School Choir Director Adrian Reyes, who also serves as the Region 18 Middle School Vocal Coordinator, says of the weekend clinic and concert, “The clinicians were excellent and produced a wonderful concert. Our students worked hard and their work paid off.”

“Just talking to them,” he added, “you could tell they were excited and really enjoyed the camaraderie. Our students were given an experience they will cherish their entire life.”

Campus-by-campus, director comments echoed Reyes, especially in expressions of pride in their students. Typical of those expressions were Barton director Katherine Moore’s thoughts on her representative to the Region Choir, Chance Tyler. “I am so proud of him,” Moore said, “not only because he was the only boy in several years to audition, but also because he made first chair out of all the Tenor 1’s.”

The full HCISD middle school contingent to this year’s Region Choir includes: Chapa – Christina Cruz, Natalie Salazar, Shelby Rotter, Kara Conn, Sherl Rivers, Simone Rivers; Simon – Cynthia De Dios; Barton – Chase Tyler; and Wallace – Taryn Bailey, Kate Widdowson, Tereza Hernandez and Nicholas Wittkopp.
