Senior citizens who live in Hays CISD are warmly invited to dinner followed by a holiday concert by the district’s band students. Admission is free. Please RSVP at 268-2141. Bus transportation will be waiting at 5:15 p.m. at both St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Kyle and Santa Cruz Catholic Church in Buda to provide transportation to and from the event.
Fuentes hosts distance learning
Distance learning is one of Hays CISD’s real highlights, the latest experience enjoyed by a group of Fuentes Elementary 5th-graders celebrating Veterans Day and Distance Learning Week. The students interviewed troops in Baghdad, Iraq, via a video chat. Part of that exchange was played at the campus Veterans Day program. Christie Rickert, the district’s distance learning specialist, called the event a success, “measured by the smiles on the soldiers’ faces and the inquisitive questions the students were asking.”
Coats for kids drive
Girl Scout Junior Troop 534 and Elm Grove Elementary are partnering to support the 24th annual Coats for Kids Drive. The Eagles send out word that “You can help a needy child stay warm this winter by donating a new or gently used coat!” A collection box is in the Elm Grove office until next Wednesday, Dec. 1. Additionally, if you know of someone who needs a coat, referral sheets will be available in the office.
