Virginia “Ginny” Puryear, 65, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010. She was the eldest child of Herman Allan (Ted) Puryear and Lois Virginia (Eckols) Puryear. She was born December 9, 1944.
She graduated from Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. She was a talented nurse and was quickly promoted to Head Nurse of Brackenridge Emergency Room where she supervised for many years. She was also a member of Church of Christ. She had many friends in the nursing profession.
As a gourmet cook, she loved to entertain friends and family. It was a real treat to be invited into her home. She was an avid collector of cookbooks, as well as baking and cooking utensils. She had fond memories of her travels to France, England, Scotland and other parts of Europe.
Her father, Herman Allan (Ted) Puryear preceded her in death. Ginny is survived by son, Michael Lawrence Raven; daughter, Samantha Anne Fleming; son, James Allan Fleming and wife Melissa; grandchildren Jenna Alexis Fleming and Brock Hunter Fleming; mother, Lois Virginia (Eckols) Puryear; brothers, Jack Puryear and wife Carolyn, David Puryear and Charles Puryear; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.,
Thursday, September 30, at the Driftwood Methodist Church followed by burial at the Driftwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Allan Fleming, David Puryear, Charles Puryear, Geoffrey Puryear, Jummy Puryear and Kenneth Robbins.
The family would like to thank Michael for the devoted care he gave his mother. Michael, you are appreciated and loved.
