Buda has been blessed with a terrific library staff and many friends to the library over the years including the Buda Women’s Club, the Lions Club, Santa Cruz Catholic Church and many individuals, businesses and foundations. Some have volunteered their time – for example, Audrey Elder volunteered 25-30 hours a week for over 10 years. Others had great ideas that resulted in significant support - Bob Elder started the fund drive. My neighbor Charles Vandervoort came up with the idea for the dessert theater, and there have been many others.
The Friends of the Buda Library has been in continuous existence since 1992. Many organizations lose steam and disband, but people like presidents Mary Giberson, Bob Elder, Georgie Cunningham, Tonya Roberts, Cindy Thornsberry, Allen Fisher, Sarah Duke, Neva Lockett, Jerry Wermund and countless officers and other members have kept the organization going.
Our membership remains strong in what continues to be very difficult years for non-profits. I think it’s a testament to the service we all receive from the Buda Public Library and the qualities of dedication, community and fun our members share. We continue to be grateful for the support the library enjoys from the City of Buda and Hays County.
