Odds & Ends

The streets and countryside in Uhland are a bit cleaner after the cleanup day on Saturday. Some 17 concerned and hard working citizens, including six Caldwell County juvenile probationers, worked hard. All were rewarded by the city with a free meal ticket redeemable at Nona’s Café & Grill for a meal of their choice. The group cleaned up Old Spanish Trail, Highway 21, Cotton Gin Road and Gristmill Road. You can help by cleaning your area of the road or the street you live on throughout the year to make your town and street a better and cleaner place to live. Thanks to all who helped and furnished equipment.

St. John Women’s Guild of the Lutheran Church met in the home of Raymond and Myrtle Heideman on Saturday for a carry-in lunch and business meeting. Twelve ladies of the Guild enjoyed lunch and fellowship, followed by a short program and a business meeting led by Barbara Hanna. Reports of the successful Harvest Festival were heard. All agreed that the new décor and ideas enhanced the booths and no changes were necessary, but new ideas are always welcome.
The group will continue to fill boxes to send to the soldiers in Pakistan. A list of items is available in the church or if you wish, you may donate cash for postage.
Plans for the community Thanksgiving dinner were discussed. The dinner will be held at the Rec Center of the church on Nov. 14 following the 10:30 a.m. service. A congregation meeting will also be held. Turkey and dressing will be furnished. You may bring a side dish or two. Visitors are welcome and all members are urged to attend.
Sandra Jones and daughter, Kelley, graciously volunteered to have a lunch and Christmas party at their home on Dec. 4th. Instead of a gift exchange, members are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the food bank.
