Governor prompts Washington to increase border safety measures

Billy Ray Cavazos, age 48 of Austin, passed away on October 9, 2010. Billy was born April 1, 1962, to Rey Cavazos and Elizabeth Strain in Beaumont, Texas. Billy spent most of his life working on golf courses in the Central Texas area; he could make grass grow just by being there. Billy attended Crockett High School. Billy could make anyone laugh, he made jokes and was so well liked by everyone he met. Billy loved the Texas Longhorns and lived for the football season. Billy’s presence in the room made everyone smile. Billy had a nickname for everyone he cared about. Billy is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Anne Proffitt and Preston R. Sanders and is survived by his mother and stepfather, Ronnie and Elizabeth Strain of Austin and father, Rey Cavazos of San Marcos, Mimi Sanders of Corpus Christi, brother, Anthony Cavazos of St. Paul, sister, Jerri Strain Scheibelhut of Buda, brother, Jami Strain of Austin, sister, Mindi Johnson of Kyle, sister, Frisca Cavazos-Martinez of Taft, brother, Ramiro Cavazos of Taft and one daughter, Carmela Cavazos of Seguin and numerous aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews and friends who loved Billy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated for funeral expenses and scholarship for his surviving daughter, Carmela.
