Ready for the Rebels

Check It Out

by MELINDA HODGES

Thanks to a generous gift from the M.B. and Edna Zale Foundation of Dallas, the Kyle Community Library has received 17 books and two CDs about Judaism.

These range from books for children to books for adults who want to learn more about Judaism. The collection includes books about the Nazi period and about Jewish holidays, and even a copy of a book of poetry by Chaim Nachman Bialik, one of the greatest poets in Jewish history, which was published in 1926 and translated from the original Hebrew.

The mission of the Zale Foundation is to increase the knowledge of Texas communities by helping their libraries build a foundation of books that are not readily accessible. The foundation’s goal is to foster acceptance and appreciation of other cultures by presenting the commonality among different religions.

For this project, the Zale Foundation partnered with the Aytz Chaim Foundation and the Central Texas Library System (both located in Austin) to fund a project to provide current books on Jewish themes to Texas libraries. The Kyle Community Library and the Central Texas Library System wish to thank the Zale Foundation and its officers and board for their vision and generosity.

These books can now be found on the new book shelves in the Kyle Community Library’s lobby, so please browse through them and check out some the next time you visit the library.
