The weather is getting a little cooler and October will be here soon, along with big events for downtown Buda. The Buda firemen will start things off with the 53rd annual FireFest in Buda City Park beginning Friday, October 1 and ending late Saturday night, October 2. Not only will there be the popular firefighter challenge, the events also include a 5K walk/run, kids challenge, washer tournaments, Miss FireFest pageants and entertainment by country music greats Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence. Next up is the annual Buda Fine Arts Festival with the Art Premier on Friday, October 1 from 7 to 10 p.m., under the tent on the greenbelt in downtown Buda. There will be live jazz music by Liz Morphis, private showings, wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and the entry fee is only $15 at the door. The Art Festival continues on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. both days, ending on Saturday at 6 p.m., and wraps up on Sunday at 4 p.m. The free festival has over 50 artists under the tent, live music, silent auction and children’s art area.
As part of the Art Festival, many beautiful quilts by the Buda Bees will be on exhibit at Buda City Hall, crafted by the quilting ladies of the Onion Creek Senior Citizens. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase for the quilt named “ Open Range” that will be given away in a drawing on Sunday, December 5.

Another “First Thursday” with the theme “ladies night out” will be October 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. There will be entertainment, special sales, along with wine tasting and good food at the businesses along Buda’s historic streets downtown.

This month marks the eighth anniversary for Sue Ellen’s Florist, the flower and gift shop located in the heart of downtown Buda at the corner of Main Street and RR 967.

Elise Lee Brown, a long time Buda resident now residing at the Regency Village in Austin, sends a warm “hello” to all her Buda friends.
