Early voting starts today in San Marcos, Kyle for Nov. 2 election

School’s out for winter

With this Friday afternoon’s school bells, the Hays CISD will begin its observance of the Christmas and New Year holiday. Teachers and administrators will return Monday, Jan. 3, for staff development and preparation day. Classes will begin at normal times Tuesday, Jan. 4. The faculties and staffs of the district extend sincere wishes to local students and their families for a warm and safe holiday.

Growth impact hearing set

Two public hearings remain for the Hays CISD Growth Impact Committee, which continues to look at modifications of the attendance zones at Hemphill Elementary and Camino Real Elementary. A hearing is set for Thursday, Jan. 13, 6 p.m. at Hemphill and another is set just prior to the Jan. 24 Board of Trustees meeting. The proposed modifications include moving approximately 71 students, residinhg east and south of Highway 21, from Hemphill to Camino Real. The idea is to provide Hemphill relief on next year’s student-to-teacher ratio.

Ray Patterson located

It’s been several weeks since we inadvertently referred to longtime – and long admired – Hays CISD teacher Ray Patterson as being at a campus he left several years ago. Suffice it to say to those who know him, even to those who know where he is, he can be found on any school day at Wallace Middle School, home of the Rangers. Our apologies for the flashback slip and we wish Patterson and his students continued happy days in his Wallace classroom.
