Mountain City Montage
by PAULINE TOM
Here’s a sparkling bright green and red cheer to Christmas-light displaying Mountain Cityians! Here’s to those who give a lot of time and money to bring a delightful experience to those who pass by! Be aware that snakes may be moving. While putting out Christmas decor, it wouldn’t hurt to wear gloves and footwear for protection.
In early November, a coral snake slithered over Betty Puckett’s leg (trying to get away from her.) And, on a sunny cold day in late November, a laborer in our yard reached to pick up his grounded jacket ... and frightened a non-venomous snake.
A friend says snakes sometimes find warmth underground atop water pipes, and come to the surface to sun. Was it a coincidence that Miguel’s jacket was within two feet of the water main running from our house to the street?
A month or so ago, a beagle in his own yard was attacked by two larger dogs without collars (thought to be yellow labs). No one in Amy Hilton’s e-distribution provided identification, so Amy took her dog for meds. Amy pleads, “I would like to ask all residents to keep their pets on leashes for the protection of other pets and children.”
December 18th: Mountain City Christmas Light Adjudication. Encouragement from Amy: “Please take the time to decorate your home and make our city more beautiful and festive this holiday season."
December 20th: 2nd Annual Tour De Lights. Amy continues, “Who doesn’t like Santa, cookies, hot chocolate, hay rides and caroling? Join in the fun and help make this a fantastic holiday tradition in MC!” Ho! Ho! Ho!
Not too far away (north of The Salt Lick off Crystal Hills Drive), Wizard Academy’s “Journey of the Wise Men” has one more weekend (free) December 17th, 18th and 19th. 7-9 p.m. You’ll be guided along wilderness trails by a Roman 2000 years ago, seeing Wizard Academy’s unique structures through all-new eyes, ending finally at the famous Chapel Dulcinea.
