A dozen Hays CISD middle school band members successfully auditioned at Austin’s Covington Middle School for the Region Band. Two others qualified as alternates.
The recognized students were among 24 Hays school district students who had qualified for the regional audition by virtue of their high scoring at the District Band tryouts a week earlier. A total of 35 local middle schoolers achieved District Band status.
Six Dahlstrom Middle School band members earned the Region Band recognition, including Emilee Whitton, Alexandra Byrne, Reid Johnson, Austin Uresti, Nicole Sandoval and Tenay Barker. Chapa Middle School’s Neriah Sosa made Region, as did Justice Winn and Clay Parham at Barton Middle School. Walllace Middle School placed Sierra Herrera, Adam Vargas and Arathan Dean on the honored level. Barton’s Katlyn Hellmer and Wallace’s Jacob Lambert both qualified as alternates.
The Middle School Region Band Clinic and Concert are set for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 10-11, at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center, with the culminating concert Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
