A 57-year-old man fatally shot himself Thursday outside the emergency room of Seton Medical Center-Hays in Kyle, authorities say.
Roy Lyman May, of Kyle, sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and was pronounced dead about an hour later. A semi-automatic pistol was located near the body, a Kyle Police Department spokesperson said.
When Kyle police arrived on scene at 2:15 p.m., May was already inside the hospital receiving treatment from medical staff but later died of his wounds.
The actual gunshot was not witnessed by anyone but a witness reported hearing a pop outside the ER area. An autopsy will be performed, police say.
May resided in Kyle with family members and had previously lived in Arkansas.
