STAFF REPORT

A ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of the construction of the new Kyle Library will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, on the new library site, 550 Scott Street.

Construction of the 20,000-square-foot library was unanimously approved by the city council in May, 2010 and will feature specialty rooms for children and teens as well as gathering spaces for community meetings and activities. There are also plans for an amphitheater and outdoor plaza.

Janie Sledge Toub and Edward Sledge will open the historic Sledge home, 202 S. Meyer St., for refreshments after the ceremony. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Kyle City Hall.
