The public is invited to tour the new Carpenter Hill Elementary School located on RR 967 on Saturday, July 31. The Buda/Kyle masons will have a Cornerstone Leveling ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. and staff and volunteers will provide tours.

Several longtime married folks are celebrating anniversaries the next few days. Best wishes go out to Adeline and Hal Odell on July 14 when they will celebrate their 35th wedding date. Shirley and Jack Koehler, celebrating 53 years of marriage and Londa and Autry Burns celebrating 50 years, both on July 16. On July 18 Mary and Sam Leming will have been married 51 years and Sherry and Bob Lowden, owners of Painted Horse, will celebrate 41 years.

Looking for a place to take your paper recycling? If so, there is a container just south of Buda City Hall on Main Street across the street from Garcia’s. Please just put paper in the container, NOT plastic, glass, metals, cardboard or trash.

Grab your lawn chairs, blankets and snacks and head over to Buda City Park on Friday to hear Bo Cox with Texas FX. The free concert starts at 7 p.m.

This dessert was a hit at a recent senior citizens covered dish meal and since this lady had a recipe published in the latest edition of the Texas Co-Op Magazine, it must be good. Our thanks to Norlene Bludworth for sharing it with us.
Coconut Cream Trifle Cake:
¾ cup sugar
1 cup flour
¼ cup butter
½ tsp salt
3-egg yolks
½ cup milk
½ tsp vanilla
¼ tsp lemon extract
1½ tsp baking powder
Beat sugar, butter and egg yolks until fluffy. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and flavorings. Blend well. Pour into sprayed and floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
To assemble: Layer of cake pieces; layer of Lucky Leaf coconut cream pie filling; layer of cool whip. Repeat.
