Buda boasts cool fall events

Check it out

by CONNIE BROOKS

Buda author Richard R. Salassi will sign copies of his book, “Three Tenors and One Squawky Contralto,” at the Kyle Public Library from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30.

In addition to writings by Salassi, “Three Tenors and One Squawky Contralto” contains poetry and stories by William Otto, Charles Hampton Gragg and Lori Stubbings. The selections cover a range of topics. There is something here for everyone.

Salassi’s offerings, for instance, include several humorous poems and a group of poems with County Cork as a theme.

A native of Vicksburg, Miss., Salassi spent time in San Francisco and Los Angeles where he worked in both film and television. During a varied career that included appearances in a number of plays, movies and television shows, he also taught school in Mississippi for many years.

In 1996, Salassi moved to Texas and began touring throughout the South as Mark Twain. The 90-minute presentation called “A Visit with Mark Twain” featured Samuel Clemens’ irreverent wit and wisdom and revealed, in Salassi’s words, “Twain’s study of the unchanging quality of human nature.”

Now that Salassi has turned his hand to writing, come to the Kyle Public Library and let him shake your hand. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet yet another interesting and accomplished Hays County resident.

Salassi will also read at the Buda Library on Friday at 3 p.m.
