Camino Real Elementary’s robotics club, the RoboRunners, ended the summer with their first robotics camp. Students engineered and programmed Lego NXT Mindstorm Robots to complete tasks and participated in team-building activities.

This camp was designed to prepare the RoboRunners for their upcoming First Lego League (FLL) tournament in Austin in November.

Each year, the league designs a challenge that engages students in learning about a real-world issue in order to promote awareness. The 2010 challenge is “Body Forward,” a challenge that focuses on bioengineering.

Students will be asked to engineer a robot that can complete a set of bioengineering missions autonomously. They will also research and design an innovative way to repair injuries, overcome genetic predispositions and maximize the body’s potential with the intended purpose of leading happier, healthier lives.
