The Lehman Lobo volleyball team knew the annual Seguin Tournament would be a challenge. And that’s exactly what it turned out to be.

Even though they competed strong against some of the best teams the San Antonio are had to offer, wins proved difficult to come by.

After being beaten in straight sets by SA Johnson (Ranked no. 2 in the greater San Antonio area) 25-10, 25-11, La Vernia (ranked No. 3 in Class 3A) 25-23, 26-24, and Converse Judson 25-17, 25-13, the Lady Lobos finished the tournament with a victory over San Antonio Kennedy 25-12, 25-19.

Mariana Filipi paced Lehman with a team-high 23 kills and even delivered the game winner in the final match with Kennedy as the Lady Lobos improved to 5-7 on the year.

“We did a lot of things well in the tournament but we also have some things we could do better,” Filipi said. “I think we’ll be ready for district because we have played a really tough schedule so far.”

All three opponents Lehman lost to in the Sequin Tournament have at least 15 wins already this season.

On the positive side, this year’s Lady Lobos squad has already surpassed the win total from last season and looks to be competitive going into the district opener at Lockhart on Sept. 10.

This week, Lehman will close out their non-district schedule against a pair of Austin teams, Akins and Crockett.
