Extend holiday cheer to our less fortunate neighbors

Odds & Ends

by MYRTLE HEIDEMAN

The annual meeting of St. John Lutheran Church was held on Sunday, Jan. 16 after a carry-in lunch. During the meeting, Jerry Hall and Erwin Hagedorn were elected to serve on the church council. Jerry is the new vice president and Erwin Hagedorn the treasurer. Thanks to David Avalos, who served as the treasurer and Danny Kleen, who finished the vice president’s term for Jean Collier, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident and could not finish the term. Glad to report that Jean is doing very well again. Thanks for a job well done to all and welcome Barbara Ilse who is the historian.

A baby shower honoring Randa Bishop was held in the church rec center on Jan. 15. The guests watched and admired the many gifts that Randa opened. The guests were invited to help themselves to sandwiches, cake, punch and coffee. Hostesses were aunts, cousins and friends of Randa’s.

Speaking of cousins, the Hagedorn and Hohmann cousins met at Mamacita’s Restaurant in San Marcos for a Dutch treat lunch on Jan. 18. Attending were Pauline and Herbert Schwertfeger of Belton, Charles and Norma Voigt of Fredericksburg, Leonard Hohmann of Waring, Al and Joyce Hagedorn of Fentress, Erwin and Bobby Jean Hagedorn of San Marcos and Myrtle Heideman of Uhland. Here’s hoping next time more will be able to come.

Sympathy is extended to the family and many friends of Danny Joe Blaschke who passed away on Jan. 10 at the Texan Nursing Center in San Marcos. A memorial service was held at the Walker Hall in Lockhart on Jan. 22.

Glad to have received several more pictures and service histories from our Armed Services personnel that will be placed on the memory and honor wall in the Uhland community center. Thanks also for the nice comments about the project some of you have made. We think it’s a worthwhile endeavor, but we need your help in this project.
